Dantin Builders House
In this highly collaborative residential design project, Reich worked closely with the interior designer, architect, and contractor to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, creating a contemporary showcase home for a young family.
The main entrance is framed by a custom steel fountain and planter. As guests enter the house, their view is defined by a 'floating wall' and two wood-inlaid steel I-beams that extend from the front door through the home's interior, over the pool and patio, and terminate at a 12-foot cascading focal wall. The team's deliberate decisions to use the same flooring throughout, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors, and a centrally located Lautner-edge pool unify the interior and exterior spaces. Although constrained by a small lot, the landscape architect collaborated with the client to program each space to fit the family's needs, seamlessly integrating the pool, negative-edge spa, custom play structure, suspended fireplace, custom windows and shelving, outdoor living room, kitchen, and dining.
